She began acting when she was 13 years old. The actress made her debut in the year 1997, at age 13. In 1997, after taking classes in the field and working as a back-up actor in Canadian television shows such as Road to Avonlea, Harriet the Spy and Goosebumps, she was given an interview on the Canadian horror show Are You Scared of The Dark? and Goosebumps. Both series were aired by YTV. Following commercials, she had appearances as a guest star on Mutant X, Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story, Goosebumps, Twice in a Lifetime, Doc, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Troubled Waters, The Dresden Files, along with a handful of Disney Channel original films (Mom's Got A Date with a Vampire and Alley Cats Strike), when she was 19 and studying at York University [12] where she studied Psychology and English. Vandervoort landed a lead role as Sadie Harrison in the CTV Teen drama Instant Star that was on for four seasons. [2][12] In 2006, Vandervoort made her acting debut in a feature film called The Lookout alongside Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Matthew Goode along with Isla Fisher. Numerous other appearances on television such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation led Vandervoort to be cast as Clark Kent's Kryptonian cousin "Kara Kent" (the girl who was to turn into Supergirl) as part of The CW Serial Drama Smallville. [2][3][5][8] She was a regular for season seven as well as on"Bloodline," season eight's "Bloodline" episode of season eight. [3] She then returned for two more episodes during the 10th season, which was also the last of Smallville. Vandervoort filmed the sequel film of Into the Blue, titled Into the Blue 2 - The Reef. The Jazzman was her next independent film. The film also featured Canadian performers Michael Ironside and Corey Sevier.
